A:

Q: I downloaded the NetZoom demo and did not receive the subscription number required for installation?
A:

The demo subscription number is e-mailed to the address you provided as part of
the download process. The e-mail looks something like this (number blacked out

You may either fill out the demo form again for the library you selected or

number. Be sure to provide a valid e-mail address you can regularly access.

Q: How is the demo version different from the subscription version?
A:

The demo contains a very small sample of equipment shapes and manufacturers. The sample lets you experience the ease of use in designing and diagramming your network with NetZoom shapes and lets you preview the quality and views offered in the NetZoom library.

In the demo version, you can evaluate most of NetZoom 6's basic features. However, only subscribers can use NetZoom Smart Update (for updating shape and stencil libraries) and the NetZoom and Visio stencils web services offered in the Microsoft Office Research task pane.

With a NetZoom subscription, you can access as many as 80,000 + equipment shapes from over 2,700 IT and Audio/Video hardware manufacturers as well as NetZoom 6’s full set of features and subscriber services.

Q: My demo subscription number is expired. Can I still use the demo? Is this an error?
A:

No, this is not an error. This “expired” number, which comes with each demo of
NetZoom, is a temporary subscription number that lets you try out most of the key
features in NetZoom. The only key features you cannot use in the demo are
Smart Update and NetZoom LiveSearch, which involve access to subscriber-only
shape and Visio stencil libraries.
A non-expired subscription number is required to use features like Smart Update
and NetZoom LiveSearch, as well as subscriber services like Free Shape Requests,
technical support and downloading shape/Visio stencil updates from the
Customer Download Center (CDC).

Q: How long can I use the demo version?
A:

When you download the NetZoom 6 demo, you will receive an e-mail with a subscription number. We recommend that you use this number, which allows you to use the demo 25 times.

If you do not enter this subscription number, you can only use the demo 5 times.

Q: I ordered the Media Pack. Why do the CDs contain fewer shapes than the total number listed on the website?
A:

Media Pack DVDs feature the latest, most downloaded shapes in the NetZoom library. It provides instant access to the most popular shapes in your subscription, reducing the time and effort spent on downloading shapes.

However, if you still need a shape that is not included on the Media Pack DVD, your subscription gives you full access to your subscription’s library. You can download any of the NetZoom shapes in your subscription through NetZoom Smart Update or the Customer Download Center at www.NetZoom.net.

Q: I purchased NetZoom, but have not yet received my subscription number. What do I do?
A:

Shortly after you purchase a NetZoom subscription, you should receive your subscription number and instructions on installing NetZoom at the e-mail address you provided. If you have not yet received this e-mail, please contact us at Support@AltimaTech.com or 630.281.6464 (US Central Time).

Q: Why do I need my subscription number?
A:

Your subscription number is an integral to your NetZoom experience.

Installation and Activation: You will need your subscription number to download and install NetZoom. You will also need it to receive an activation key, which registers you as an official NetZoom user. This is especially important if someone else purchased NetZoom for you. Once you activate the product, it helps us provide service to you and your particular needs.

Download Shapes and Stencils: You will also need your subscription number to download shapes and stencils. Without it, you can only access the very small set of sample shapes that come with the demo version of NetZoom 6.

Support and Free Shape Requests: The subscription number lets you access our entire line of support services. If you have technical issues with NetZoom or you would like to request more shapes, you will need to supply this number. NetZoom subscribers may request additional shapes to be created – at no additional charge.

Renewing NetZoom Subscriptions: Users with valid subscription numbers qualify for discount pricing when renewing their NetZoom subscriptions.

Q: I lost my subscription number. What do I do?
A:

If you have lost your subscription number, please contact us immediately at Support@AltimaTech.com or 630.281.6464 (US Central Time). You will need to provide as much information as you can (such as your activation key, who purchased it, etc.) so we can validate your information and retrieve the subscription number we have on file for you.

Q: How do I know if my subscription number is still valid?
A:

You can always check on the status of your subscription number within NetZoom.

1. Click on the Settings and Options icon in the NetZoom toolbar.
2. In the Application tab, click on Manage Subscriptions.
3. On the Current tab, you can see when your subscription expires. If your subscription has expired, there is a 30-day grace period in which you qualify for renewal pricing on an equivalent subscription. If this grace period has passed, you will need to purchase a new subscription.

As a helpful tip, you can set a reminder to let you know when your subscription expires under Manage Subscriptions in Settings and Options. If you have additional questions, contact us at Support@AltimaTech.com or 630.281.6464 (US Central Time).

Q: Can I still use the NetZoom application after my subscription expires?
A:

Yes, the NetZoom application itself can be used on its own. You will be able to
use most of the key features in NetZoom, except for those involving access to
subscriber-only services, such as Smart Update and NetZoom LiveSearch.
As a reminder, you cannot take advantage of the following benefits if you do
not have a current, active subscription:
1. Download updates to your equipment shape and Visio stencil library.
2. Submit free shape requests, which are turned around in as little as 24 hours.
3. Obtain technical support for NetZoom.
4. Take advantage of reduced pricing for renewing subscriptions on time. If your
subscription number is expired for over 30 days, you will have to purchase a
NetZoom subscription at our first-time pricing rates.

Q: My subscription has expired. Do I have to pay full price for a renewal?
A:

If your subscription has expired, there is a 30-day grace period in which you qualify for renewal pricing. If this grace period has passed, you will need to purchase a new subscription. Contact us at Sales@AltimaTech.com or 630.281.6464 (US Central Time) for more information.

Q: May I still receive technical support if my subscription number has expired?
A:

If your subscription has expired, there is a 30-day grace period in which you qualify for renewal pricing on an equivalent subscription. If this grace period has passed, you will need to purchase a new subscription.

  Why Should You Activate?
Q: Using NetZoom 6
A:

Activation helps prevent unauthorized use of NetZoom. It is a representation of the End-User License Agreement between Altima Technologies and the end user. We are committed to discouraging unauthorized use in a way that minimizes any inconvenience to licensed users.

Q: What Happens During Activation?
A:

When a customer installs NetZoom, they are required to activate the product by internet or phone. If you activate by phone, you will receive an activation key upon successful verification. You will then enter this key within the product to complete activation. Users who activate by internet within NetZoom will not need a separate activation key.

In both cases, the following information is collected for verification of our licensed users:
· User name
· Company name
· Country
· Phone number
· Valid e-mail address
· Subscription number

Q: Benefits of Activation
A:

1. Activation is intended for the actual user of the product. Someone may have purchased NetZoom for you, so the billing and shipping information we received may differ from your contact and profile information. This information helps us provide better service and support for your particular needs.

2. Activation lets you access NetZoom Smart Update, NetZoom Stencils Web Service, Free Shape Request service, and other features and services.

3. Activation ensures that you receive product updates, faster feedback on your service and support inquiries and newsletters to update you with the latest information regarding your NetZoom subscription.

4. Most importantly, you are doing your part to discourage piracy, which helps us provide further innovation to our valued customers.

Customer Download Center & Downloading in Windows Vista
Q: When downloading files from the Customer Download Center (CDC), my download times out, I get disconnected, the download does not start or my download disappears in Windows Vista.
A:

Consult your network administrator Many of the files on NetZoom’s CDC are relatively large in size, which may cause connections to quit or time out. If possible, contact your administrator to make sure your network and PC settings are optimized for downloading large files.

Adjust Windows and VPN firewall settings If your download does not start at all and/or you receive an error message in your browser, check your Windows and VPN firewall settings. Depending on your network security settings, you may have to temporarily turn off your firewall to download from the NetZoom CDC. Of course, be sure to turn your firewall settings back on after the download is complete. Your network administrator can help you adjust these settings.

Windows Vista Users Some of the most common issues Vista users face in downloading files are incomplete downloads or downloaded files that seem to “disappear” (the download appears to complete but you cannot see the file in the selected save location). There are many potential reasons, but the following steps tend to resolve such issues:

NOTE: Always consult your network administrator before changing PC and network security settings.

a.

Internet Browser Settings Common browsers like Internet Explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox let you adjust privacy settings to trust content from certain websites. Add http://www.NetZoom.net to your list of trusted sites.

b.

Windows Defender SettingsBuilt to provide protection against harmful or unwanted software when turned on, Windows Defender may also block legitimate software downloads. To download and launch an install file from a trusted source successfully, you may want to turn Windows Defender off temporarily to download setup and update files from the NetZoom 6 CDC.

Using the Control Panel, navigate to the Security screen: Control Panel>Security. Click on Windows Defender to turn it on or off as necessary.

c.

Windows Firewall SettingsDepending on your network’s security settings, you may have to temporarily turn off your firewall to download from the NetZoom CDC. Of course, be sure to turn your firewall settings on after the download is complete.

Using the Control Panel, navigate to the Security screen: Control Panel>Security. Click on Windows Firewall to turn it on or off as necessary.

Changing Firewall Settings in the Vista Command PromptYou may also work with your network administrator and use the Vista Command Prompt to implement a workaround if NetZoom is responding slowly or not responding at all.

Microsoft has posted an article that details one of these workarounds at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;934430

Q: I received an applet error while downloading items from the Customer Download Center. How do I clean the registry?
A:

Use the following instructions to fix the applet error in your download. If you need further assistance, please contact our Technical Support specialists or ask your system administrator for assistance in this process.

1. In the Windows Start menu, click Run and type "regedit". Click OK, which will open the      Registry Structure.

2. Select HKEY_USERS node and press CTRL + F to find. Enter "infomentum" and press      "Find Next" button.

3. If it finds "infomentum":
You will get two lines entry in the right-side window. Delete the line containing     "infomentum" and press the F3 key to continue searching. Repeat the above step until the     end of the Node.

4. Select HKEY_USERS again and search keyword "WinTrust". If It finds

"WinTrust", then click on "Trust Providers" -->"Software Publishing"-->"Trust Database"    -->"0", and delete the line containing "Infomentum" from the right side window.

5. Delete all files from "C:\winnt\Temporary Internet Files".

6. To reset your browser settings from Internet Explorer, select Internet Options under      the Tools menu. Press the Delete Files button in the Temporary Internet Files section.

NetZoom Shapes Library and Requesting Additional Shapes
Q: I don’t need all the shapes in the library I purchased. Do I need to download all of them?
A:

No. NetZoom is designed so you can download shapes as you need them. Using NetZoom Smart Update lets you select only the manufacturers and product lines you wish to use. And you can download shapes as often as you would like, 24/7.

Q: I cannot find the shape or stencil I am looking for?
A:

The NetZoom shape libraries are updated regularly, so check again to see if your particular shape or stencil was added. If you still cannot find what you are looking for, NetZoom subscribers can request a shape or stencil to be created for FREE in several ways.

NetZoom: In the Results pad, right-click on any shape and select Request Shape Not Found. This will open a form in which you can fill in details of the shape you need. Once you are finished, simply click Submit.

Request online: You may also visit www.NetZoom.net and submit a request on our "FREE Shape Requests" page in Support. Use the form to give us as much information as you can about the shape or stencil you need. As your request is processed, you can monitor the status of your request. You will be e-mailed once your requested shapes have been completed.

You may also contact us at Support@AltimaTech.com or 630.281.6464 (US Central Time) to request more shapes.

Q: I noticed an error in an equipment shape. How do I submit a correction?
A:

If you notice an error in a particular equipment shape, whether it involves its physical qualities or embedded properties, right click on the shape within NetZoom and provide as much information as you can about the nature of the error. Once you are finished, click Submit. Our specialists will review your suggested changes and appropriate steps will be taken.

Q: Can I request additional shapes to be created?
A:

Yes, NetZoom subscribers can request as many shapes as they need. The NetZoom shape libraries are updated regularly, so check to see if your particular shape or stencil was added. If you still cannot find what you are looking for, NetZoom subscribers can request a shape or stencil to be created for FREE in several ways. Refer to question #2 in this section for more details.

Q: My project requires additional shapes. How can I get them?
A:

In addition to our Computer/Telecom and Audio/Video shape libraries, we can accommodate special shape requests. Contact us at Support@AltimaTech.com or 630.281.6464
(US Central Time) about your shape and stencil needs.

   General Use
Q: How do I resize shapes in a diagram? Or how do I fit a rack-mountable equipment shape on a rack that is wider than the shape I am using?

You can also run Smart Update from within NetZoom by selecting Settings and Options from the toolbar and Select Manufacturers from the Application tab. It will launch when you click Smart Update.

Q: Backup and Restore does not launch.
A:

To launch Backup and Restore, the main NetZoom palette must be closed. Close out of NetZoom and launch Backup and Restore. For assistance, please contact our Support line at 630.281.6464 or email Support@AltimaTech.com

Q: How are shapes organized in NetZoom?
A:

Shapes are organized by Manufacturer, Equipment Type, Product Line, and the Part/Model Number. You can search for shapes using these categories or search by Keyword using common equipment terms like “switch” or “router”.

Q: When I search for a shape and/or manufacturer that I know is in my library, sometimes it says that results are not found?
A:

Check Search Manufacturer Settings
Using the Settings and Options menu, make sure that the manufacturer(s) in
question is selected as a searchable manufacturer:
1. Open NetZoom Settings and Options.
2. Click on the Application tab.
3. Select Search Manufacturers.

4. Review the manufacturers list. If you have chosen to limit your searches to a
specific set of manufacturers, make sure you include the manufacturer
whose shapes cannot be found in your search results.
You may also click on Clear All to reset your search settings, which will include
all the manufacturers found in your local PC library. To limit your searches to
specific manufacturers, check the box next to the manufacturer as
     necessary.
Check Shape Style Filter Settings
NetZoom lets you limit searches to particular shape “styles” as well – 2D front, 2D
rear, 2D blank chassis, 3D perspective and certain rack-mountable equipment
types. Make sure that your selections do not exclude the shape you are looking
for.
     1. Open NetZoom Settings and Options.
     2. Click on the Shape tab.
     3. Select Shape Style Filter.
     4. If you do not want to exclude particular shape styles, make sure that you
         leave all styles unchecked.

     5. If you wish to limit your searches to certain equipment types, make sure
that your selections do not exclude the shape you cannot find.

Q: How do I change the views of my search results?
A:

Select the Settings and Options icon in the NetZoom toolbar. Under the Application tab, select Search Results View to view shape results in tree, icon, list, or true view.

Q: How do I open a stencil?
A:

From the results pad, right click on your selected device or product line and choose Open Stencil. A stencil of the selected equipment will launch within Visio.

Q: What views are available for NetZoom shapes?
A:

NetZoom offers multiple views of shapes, including front, rear, 2D, and 3D views. Select the Settings and Options icon in the NetZoom toolbar. Under the Application tab, select Shape Style Filter. Here, you can select and de-select different styles (views) to appear in your search results. You can apply these settings to general equipment shapes as well as mountable equipment, including blades, modules, and rack mounts.
NOTE: Certain views may not be available on certain shapes.

Q: I notice tabs on shapes within True and Icon view. What purpose do they serve?
A:

Tabs signify what views are available for that shape. Select a tab (use the right-click menu to preview shape details if you would like) and drag the shape to your diagram.

Q: I cannot drag a shape into my diagram.
A:

If you are using Tree View, please make sure that you are dragging from a shape node and not the manufacturer, product line or other designation.

Also, make sure you have chosen a diagramming application that is enabled for NetZoom. In Settings and Options, click Select Host Application from the Application tab. If your diagramming application is enabled for NetZoom, it will be listed here. If it is not listed, you may be able to download an adapter that will enable your application for NetZoom. Visit the Customer Download Center at www.NetZoom.net to see what adapters are available.

Q: I cannot connect equipment shapes.
A:

First, make sure that shape connectors are enabled. Select Settings and Options in the NetZoom toolbar. Under the Shape tab, select Auto Connection Points. Confirm that “No connection points” is de-selected. Choose from the other available connectors to enable connection points.

Secondly, make sure that you are using a host application that will recognize embedded connection points in NetZoom shapes. For assistance, contact the Support line at 630.281.6464 or e-mail using Support@AltimaTech.com.

Q: I only see generic connectors on my shapes. Where are the connection points for equipment ports/slots?
A:

Select Settings and Options in the NetZoom toolbar. Under the Shape tab, select Auto Connection Points. Here you can enable connection points on applicable equipment data ports, power ports, and slots by selecting “Data ports only” or “Boundary plus data ports.”

Q: I do not see tooltips for shapes and connections.
A:

Make sure you have tooltips enabled. You can check by selecting Settings and Options in the NetZoom toolbar. Under the Shape tab, select Auto Tooltips. Confirm that No Tooltips is de-selected. Select one of the available tooltip formats.

On each shape, tooltips are only available when you hover over a connection point on the actual shape after it is dropped into the host application. Note that tooltips are not available in certain applications.

Q: Can I make equipment icons larger within Icon and True view?
A:

Yes. Simply drag the shape from the lower right-hand corners to increase or decrease the size of shapes within the stencil.

Q: How do I create personalized stencils?
A:

By default, there is a personal stencil called “My Favorites” to which you can add shapes for a personalized stencil. To change its name and create new personalized stencils, select Settings and Options in the NetZoom toolbar. Under the Project tab, select My Stencils. Click New to create as many personal stencils as you would like. Once you have your stencil sets created, you can add a shape to a stencil by right-clicking on a shape in search results and selecting My Stencil, where you can drop the shape into one of your existing personal stencils or a new one that you can create within the right-click menu.
